The Faculty wishes to offer our congratulations to the two Chem-e-car teams from UWA who succeeded at the Chemeca conference.
Team Roadtrain ( Hatim Essajee and Janette Widjaja ) won best poster and team Squeaky (Lionel Lam, Rhys Daniel and Andrew Vinciguerra ) - on the photo - came third in the actual competition.
UWA teams competed against four other finalist teams from around Australia in a competition to design and construct a car powered by a chemical reaction.
Chem-E-Car is part of Chemeca 2009, an annual international chemical engineering and chemical industry conference, which was held in Perth on 26 - 30 September. The competition was open to undergraduate chemical engineering students.
Students had to design and construct a car that uses a chemical reaction to power the car and control the distance that the car travels, carrying a specified load.
Electronics, computers and brakes were not allowed. The competition was about demonstrating the ability to control a chemical reaction.
"It has been an outstanding result for our first time in the competition", said Dr Matt Hardin, who led both teams to the success.
