The University of Western Australia-based Centre for Exploration Targeting (CET) will showcase university research and its impact on mineral exploration during a symposium next week.

The Centre for Exploration Targeting is a joint venture between UWA, Curtin University of Technology, the West Australian government and minerals industry partners, established in 2005 to increase the discovery of new mineral deposits while conducting world-class research.

Speakers include:

  • State Minister for Mines and Petroleum, the Hon Norman Moore
  • CET chairman Dr Jon Hronsky, who will discuss the importance and challenges of increasing greenfield exploration activities
  • Mark Woffenden, Executive Director, Research and Chemistry Precinct, Curtin
  • Tim Shanahan, Director, Energy and Minerals Initiative, UWA

CET director, Professor Cam McCuaig, will outline the structure of the CET and its role, engagement with industry (corporate membership, collaborative research projects) and engagement with stakeholder groups; and showcase high-profile research projects.

The presentations will be followed by panel discussion.
