The Pro-Vice Chancellor (Research and Research Training), Professor Robyn Owens, and the Postdoctoral Coordinator, Dr Amelia Scaffidi, are pleased to announce a new Early Career Research Award , designed to acknowledge outstanding research accomplishments by Early Career Postdoctoral Researchers. Five AU$1000 prizes are being offered for the best work accepted for publication.

To be eligible for these awards, Early Career Postdoctoral Researchers must have had their PhD awarded after 31 December 2003. If you are unsure whether you meet the definition of a Postdoctoral Researcher please email Amelia Scaffidi .

Work Accepted for Publication
The work must be peer-reviewed and have been accepted for publication after the 1st January 2008. The work may be a paper in a scholarly journal, a book or book chapter.

Publications must include a UWA byline. Only work to which the applicant has contributed substantially will be considered. If your work received an award under the scheme entitled "prizes for higher degree by research achievements" you cannot submit the same work for this award.

The application must include the following:

1) A copy of the final version of the accepted work.

2) A copy of the referees' reports.

3) A copy of the editor's letter of acceptance, showing clearly submission and acceptance dates of publication.

4) A copy of the application coversheet (email Amelia Scaffidi for the template).

5) Applicants are required to submit a cover letter in which they comment on the standard of the journal the paper is published in, indicating impact factor, ranked position in the field and citation index. In the case of a published book or chapter in a published book, the applicant should comment on the standing of the publisher and the practices and rigour of the refereeing process.

6) Applicants are also required to provide a 100 word description of their publication and its context. If the work has multiple authors, there must also be a statement outlining the percentage contribution of each author to the work. This must be signed by all authors. Any media coverage that has resulted from the work may also be included as supporting evidence of the impact of the work.

Four copies of each application must be submitted to Dr Amelia Scaffidi, Research
Services (M459) by 5pm Friday, 11 September 2009 .
