The University of Western Australia is looking to form an AIPN (Association of International Petroleum Negotiators) student club. The AIPN is a leading multi-disciplinary organisation for people active in the petroleum industry, including lawyers, engineers and those with a business qualification.

Membership of the Club will enable members to participate in the events organised by the Club, including talks by visiting experts, visits to petroleum companies and, possibly internships.

For undergraduate and postgraduate students who have a possible interest in the petroleum industry this is an excellent way to increase their knowledge and involvement and make valuable contacts.

AIPN gives students a number of benefits including reduced membership fees to join the AIPN itself (US$25) and once you are a member, access to the extensive material on its website, scholarships and reduced fees for conferences.

This will suit the following disciplines: Commercial, legal and technical Law, Engineering, Geology, Economics and Accounting.

The companies that have indicated they will support the Club in Perth are:
1) leading petroleum companies (BP, ConocoPhillips, Woodside and others), as well as
2) leading professional service firms such as KPMG, Freehills, Mallesons and Corrs.

The Club will be initially coordinated by Mr John Chandler of the Centre for Mining Energy and Natural Resources Law in the Law Faculty ( [email protected] , phone 6488 1907).

Kimberly Reeder, Managing Legal Counsel- Exploration and Production BP Australia are the AIPN coordinators, ( [email protected] ).

If you are interested in joining, please contact Mr John Chandler on 6488 1907.
