AusAID is the Australian Government agency responsible for managing Australia's overseas aid program. The Australian Leadership Awards - Fellowships (ALAF) are a component of a regional program that aims to develop leadership and build partnerships and linkages with developing countries. The objective of AusAID is to assist developing countries reduce poverty and achieve sustainable development, in line with Australia's national interest.

The ALAF Program is designed to complement individual bilateral country programs by offering flexible fellowship placements which address current and emerging issues at the country, sub-regional and regional level.

Grant funding of up to AU$35,000 per fellow for ALAF Program activities is offered on a competitive basis to Australian organisations to host leaders or mid-career professionals from eligible countries for short-term specialised research, leadership training or professional attachments, delivered in Australia.

ALA Fellowships are for short term study, research and professional attachment programs in Australia delivered by Australian organisations. They are intended for those who are already leaders or have the potential to assume leadership roles that can influence social and economic policy reform and development outcomes.

Eligible countries are listed on the website and include a range of countries in the Asia Pacific, Latin America, Caribbean and Palestinian Territories.

Applications addressing the priority areas of disability and development, economic growth, education, environment, food security, gender, governance, health, human rights, infrastructure, regional stability, rural development and water and sanitation are particularly encouraged.

Deadlines:
Round 6 closing date: Wednesday 12 August
Round 7 closing date: Friday 11 December

Submission : A CD-ROM and hard copy are required to be submitted by mail.  These should be submitted as soon as possible (preferably at least a week before the deadline) via UWA’s Research Grants Office .  Further information from Debbie Thackray or Christine Casey .
