Organised by the Office of Industry and Innovation (OII) , the Innovation Challenge is open to all UWA staff and postgraduate students with projects that may have a commercial application. The Innovation Challenge competition selects and awards UWA's most commercially innovative projects that don't have outside support.

Eligible projects can be any projects currently being undertaken by UWA staff and postgraduate students that:

  • are not being funded by a third party, other than the typical grant bodies such as the NHMRC and ARC;
  • are innovative in their field;
  • have potential commercial applications.


Important dates:

  • All submissions for the Innovation Challenge must be submitted by 5.00pm on the 7th August 2009;
  • Finalists will be notified by 14th August ;
  • Presentations for finalists will be held on 8th September 2009 at the University Club. The finalists will be required to present their project.

The participants will be judged by a panel selected from OII staff and the UWA Pathfinder Panel .

Prizes:

1st Prize: funding for idea development to the value of $ 15,000
1st Runner up - funding for idea development to the value of $10,000
2nd Runner up - funding for idea development to the value of $5,000

The three Innovation Challenge winners and other UWA presenters will have the opportunity to compete against other WA universities. This event will be held in November and further details will be advised.
