First year indigenous engineering students, Samantha Shepherd and Ezra Jacobs-Smith, were thrilled when both received a laptop from Les May, Managing Director of ACS Global to help them in their engineering studies.

Les said it was encouraging to see young and bright indigenous students pursuing an engineering degree at UWA and that ACS Global was pleased to be a part of their studies. "We believe in investing in our young and talented students to help them succeed in their studies as they will be the future workforce for our industry".

From next year Samantha plans to specialise in environmental engineering whereas Erza intends to purse the mining engineering discipline. Other indigenous students who will be completing their engineering studies later this year include Tian Williams and Jarrad Taylor.

The Faculty has graduated a number of indigenous engineering students including Marty Skiadas (BE, 1996), Linton Wright (BE, 1998), Shaun Simmons (BE 1997), Lance D'Antoine (BE, 2003), Acacia Milroy (BSc/BE 2005) and Scott Leggett (BE 2007).

The Faculty and the School of Indigenous Studies are grateful for ACS Global and BHP Billiton Iron Ore's generous support of our indigenous engineering students. BHP Billiton Iron Ore has created an Indigenous Scholarships Program at UWA.
