The Strategic Review 2009 is now approaching the latter stages, with the Co-Chairs working on options and recommendations, and planning begun for bringing together the options and recommendations from each Review Area into a draft consolidated plan for the consideration of the Faculty.

Staff are reminded to continue participating and contributing to the review, by attending workshops, making submissions , and regularly looking at review updates on the Strategic Review website .

Summary of Review Progress

  • The Physical, Information, Communications and Computing Infrastructure (PICCI) Co-Chairs have conducted three focus groups where selected staff were invited to contribute ideas and thoughts around their particular area of work. The output notes from all three PICCI focus groups can be viewed on the Strategic Review website . The PICCI Co-Chairs also held their open issues workshop on the 8th June. The details of the feedback provided at this workshop will also become available on the Strategic Review website . The PICCI Co-Chairs, David Sampson and Mark Reynolds, are now developing a combined issues and options paper, and when published this paper will become available on the Strategic Review website .
  • The Education Strategic Review Area Co-Chairs held an open options workshop on 3rd June which was designed to provide Faculty members an opportunity to give feedback on the Education options. The feedback obtained at the Education workshop will soon become available on the Strategic Review website . The Co-Chairs are now completing their draft recommendations for Education.
  • The Industry and Community Partnerships, Foundation and Alumni Issues Paper was recently distributed to members of ECM Industry Advisory Boards and Panels, as well as to members of the UWA Engineering Foundation. These Industry partners were invited to provide feedback on the issues presented in the paper, plus any other thoughts on what strategic recommendations are needed to be implemented in order to achieve these issues. The Industry Co-Chairs, Mark Cassidy and Tim Shanahan, are currently in the process of developing their options paper and when released this paper will become available on the Strategic Review website .
  • The Governance Co-Chairs, Greg Ivey and Nick Spadaccini, are finalising their issues paper. As part of this process they are working with the other Review Co-Chairs looking at models and options.
  • The Research Co-Chairs, Cheryl Praeger and Mark Randolph, are in the process of developing their Research options paper. When released the Research options paper will be available on the Strategic Review website . Members of the Faculty will have an opportunity to provide feedback on these options at the upcoming Research Options workshop , details of which are available in Upcoming Events below.
  • Submissions - Staff are encouraged to make submissions to the Review on any aspect and relating to any of the review areas. This can include current issues faced by the Faculty, or options, models, principles or suggestions for the future. It is important that submissions are made as soon as possible to enable them to be properly considered.

Upcoming Events

  • The Research Co-Chairs are holding their second open workshop on Thursday 25th June at 10.00am in the Blue Room, Currie Hall. The Co-Chairs will be collecting feedback on their Research options paper, which will be released before the workshop.
  • A second meeting of the ECM Summit, the steering committee for the Strategic Review 2009, will be held on Thursday 18th June. Information on the ECM Summit, as well as the Agenda and Minutes from the first meeting (22nd April) are available on the Strategic Review website. The Agenda and Minutes from the upcoming meeting will also become available on the Strategic Review website .
  • The Review Co-Chairs will be participating in an all-day workshop on 6th July. This workshop will provide an opportunity for the Co-Chairs to regather and combine their review area recommendations and options into a consolidated report.
