Nine early career researchers in FECM were succesful in the 2008 round for UWA Research Development Awards funding in 2009. This scheme is a great opportunity to:
a) develop grant writing skills,
b) secure funding for pilot projects to support future external applications,
c) build up track record in funding success and
d) establish a relationship or collaboration with a mentor.
Congratulations to the winners in last year's round of funding:
Dr Adam Wittek, Mechanical Engineering: 'Mesh‑Free Method for Soft Tissue Damage Modelling for Application in Surgery Simulation' - $29,589
Dr Mariusz Martyniuk, Electrical, Electronic, Comp Engineering: 'Optical Addressing of Nano‑Cantilever Based Sensors' - $29,932
Dr Tomasz Popiel, Mathematics & Statistics: 'Nonlinear Approximation Theory and Engineering Applications' - $16,789
Dr Marco Ghisalberti, Environmental Systems Engineering: 'Vertical Mixing in Wave Flows Over Seagrass Beds' - $17,681
Dr Nicole Jones, Environmental Systems Engineering: 'The Importance of Topographically Controlled Fronts to the Humpback Whales of Camden Sound, Kimberley, Western Australia' - $28,626
Dr Luigi Barone, Computer Science & Software Engineering: 'Distributed Swarm Intelligence Using Prediction Markets for Belief Propagation' - $15,000
Dr Wei Liu, Computer Science & Software Engineering: 'Extracting Social Networks from Collaborative E‑Portals' - $28,200
