All media are invited to the announcement of The University of Western Australia (UWA) - Australian Institute of Marine Science (AIMS) Memorandum of Understanding to establish a joint research fund.

The MOU will be announced by the Minister for Innovation, Industry, Science and Research, Senator the Hon Kim Carr, on Thursday 26 March 2009 at the University of Western Australia in Perth.

This event marks a new stage in the close and evolving relationship between one of Australia's leading marine science universities and Australia's tropical marine science agency and will greatly boost marine science research education in Western Australia.

The event will begin at 9.30am.  The Vice Chancellor of UWA, Professor Alan Robson, will introduce Senator Carr who will speak briefly.  Then Professor Robson and the CEO of AIMS Dr Ian Poiner will sign the agreement.  Interviews with Senator Carr, Professor Robson and Dr Poiner will be available between 9.50am and 10.10am .

The launch will be held in the Prescott Room, Vice Chancellery, University of Western Australia, Perth.
