The UWA Centre for Software Practice and HealthLink have joined forces to provide enhanced secure messaging in Australia and New Zealand.

HealthLink, Australia and New Zealand's leader in secure communications, will use the Centre's MMEx software product to enhance the range of services provided to health professionals in both countries.

HealthLink Chief Executive Officer Tom Bowden said the collaboration would enable all health professionals to exchange confidential patient information securely without requiring expensive software or infrastructure. HealthLink would also expand the range of services offered to allied health professionals including the ability to provide a shared electronic health record and online referrals and reports.

Dr David Glance, Director of the UWA Centre for Software Practice, said MMEx was already providing clinical management and communication infrastructure in WA and the collaboration with HealthLink would attract a much larger group of health professionals across Australia and New Zealand.

"We have been working with HealthLink informally for some months now in WA and hope to build on HealthLink's existing customer base to include health professionals that have not been able to be involved in communicating with GPs, specialists and hospitals." Dr David Glance said.

The UWA Centre for Software Practice was established as a UWA research centre in 2006 and has been responsible for the development of MMEx as an e-Health platform, which is currently being used throughout WA by health services, GPs, specialists and allied health professionals.

HealthLink was established in New Zealand in 1996 and in Australia in 2002 and has rapidly become the leading provider of secure communication of patient information in those markets.
