The Research Strategic Review Area Co-Chairs, Professor Cheryl Praeger and Professor Mark Randolph, are holding their first open scoping workshop for the Strategic Review 2009. This first workshop is aimed at Level A, B and recently promoted Level C Faculty Academic Staff, and Faculty Professional Staff who are involved in research at this level.

The details for the workshop are as follows:
Date : Friday 13 March 2009
Time: 12.30pm - 2pm
Venue : OSDS Seminar Room 1, Love House, Organisational and Staff Development Services, 28 Broadway (corner Cooper St), Nedlands (Opposite Barratts; Location map available at: https://www.osds.uwa.edu.au/location ).

A light lunch will be served. To assist in catering, please indicate your attendance by email to [email protected] with "Research Workshop RSVP" in the subject line, by noon, Thursday 12 March 2009.

The purpose of the workshop will be to seek your views on the current research environment. To assist in planning for the workshop, please acccess the following documents, available at www.ecm.uwa.edu.au/staffnet/review/areas/research:

  1. The provisional terms of reference for the Research Strategic Review Area;
  2. A number of specific issues identified by the Co-Chairs for discussion at this workshop; and
  3. Three questions which will be used to focus the discussion at the workshop (See below)

The discussion will be focused around three questions:

  1. Teaching and research balance: is there a
satisfactory balance, and sufficient opportunities for both?
  2. Career development: does your job in FECM provide
appropriate support and mentoring for now and for your future?
  3. FECM research environment: what are the
ingredients for a vibrant research environment and how do we get there?
(Note, for this last question, consider the extent to which a ‘group' or ‘centre' ethos
exists in your research environment, and the extent to which individuals feel
part of the School or Centre where they are employed.)

Staff who are unable to attend this workshop will have the opportunity to make submissions on the Terms of Reference. The process and format for submissions will be announced shortly.  In addition, further scoping workshops will be held for Level C, D and E Academic Staff and Professional staff, and postgraduate students.
