For decades, the School of Physics has been able to pride itself on its outstanding outreach program involving local Perth schools. Last year saw an incredible expansion of this program overseas, with 23 students from Jurong Junior College and 18 students form National University Singapore High School, visiting UWA. The students took part in week-long specialised research outreach programs held in November and December. The aim of the outreach programs is to foster relationships with overseas high schools to encourage future study at the University, as well as provide a rich science and cultural experience.

And according to feedback, the sessions were a big hit withal those involved:
“We were thrilled to be able to attract such high quality students from Singapore.”  Jay Jay Jegathesan, Manager, School of Physics.

"Every student and teacher was very touched by and appreciative of the warmth and attention showered upon us by all staff of the School of Physics. At point of writing, we are all experiencing withdrawal symptoms!” Damien Ler Puay Song, Head of Science, Jurong Junior College.

“I had a wonderful experience here at UWA and it really helped spark my interest for physics. I’ve never thought of pursuing a PhD, but now I’ve finally decided that I want a doctorate. Thank you UWA.” – visiting student.
