Much has happened in the Office of Development and Alumni Relations since our last publication.
The Hackett Foundation relocated to a wonderfully refurbished office situated on Level 1 of the Administration East Building (the old Bookshop) adjacent to the Recreation Centre car park – and we have a newly appointed Director to lead us into the next phase of University alumni development and fundraising.

The appointment of Dr Campbell Thomson as Director of Development and Research Services will assist the development of ongoing relationships and university partnerships. Campbell has been Director of the Division of Research Services at UWA for over a decade and brings with him a wealth of experience in industry sponsorship. As an alumnus of the University he has a strong commitment to helping UWA achieve its aspirational goal of being one of the top 50 universities in the world. This will require a much higher level of funding and investment.

The announcement of Miss Deirdre de Souza’s appointment as General Manager of the Office of Development and Alumni Relations has also been welcomed. Deirdre has been an integral player within the Office of Development for several years keeping our influential alumni and our partners informed and involved in the life of this institution.

Planning for the University’s Centenary is in full swing following a visit to UWA
by the Assistant Vice-President for Development at Stanford University, Tim Portwood, who held a series of discussions with the University Executive, the Senate Development Committee and Hackett Foundation Patrons. The University has been encouraged to seize the opportunity of its forthcoming centenary to think boldly about its future, with
philanthropy playing a key role in UWA’s success. A comprehensive Centenary Campaign is expected to capture the imagination of UWA staff and students, alumni, communities and friends.
